Date for UPSC Exams 2014 announced, Preliminary exam on August 24

According to the UPSC examination 2014 calendar, the official notification for Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2014 will be released on May 17, 2014. The UPSC examination is conducted using a two-step method. The interested candidate needs to appear for the civil services preliminary exam which is followed by the civil services mains exam. 

The preliminary examination is an objective type exam conducted as a screening test for the mains exam. This paper consists of two papers - general study paper and civil service aptitude test (CSAT). Once the candidate clears the preliminary exam he or she needs to appear for the main exam paper. This exam assesses the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of a candidate. It consists of nine written exams of 250 marks each. 

Eligibility Criteria: 
Applicants require a graduation degree or equivalent from a recognized university to qualify for the application process. The age limit for the candidates from the general category is 21-30 years, OBC category is 21-33 years and SC/ST category is 21-35 years.
The number of attempts available to pass the exam for general, OBC and SC/ST category are 4, 7 and 11 respectively.
